The Birbeck Singers
In January 2011 the Ipswich Institute added ‘singing’ to their growing range of study classes and a music tutor was appointed to lead an initial group of 15 people. Numbers increased and the group were encouraged to undertake public performances for small audiences. Their name originated from the name of their regular place of practice at the Institute, ‘the Birkbeck Room’.
The Birbeck Singers sing for fun and enjoy learning together, and offering programmes of songs from a wide variety of styles and genres. They are directed by soprano Lindsay Gowers and accompanied by pianist Sabine Sutton.
St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity and hospice, which improves life for people in the East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney areas living with a progressive or life-limiting illness. Established in 1989, the hospice has built a reputation for delivering high-level care to patients and the community it serves. Through medicine and therapy, they ease pain; give life purpose and make life liveable. Last year the charity supported over 4,000 patients and their families.
