Lecture – 8th September
A Lost Medieval Port at Bawdsey
Professor Mark Bailey.
Mark is Professor of Late Medieval History and a resident of Suffolk who has become fascinated by the dynamic interaction of climate change and human responses between 1200 and 1700. Histories of Suffolk usually document how increased storminess resulted in major erosion events along our vulnerable coast, such as the fate of Dunwich, while overlooking theequally important impact of major accretion events. Using Orford Ness and Bawdsey as examples, this talk explores these fascinating and highly relevant phenomena.
