St John the Baptist Church

Trianon Symphony Orchestra and Choir

Conductor:  Adrian Brown
Soloists: Paul Bloomfield (tenor) & Tim Gillott (baritone)

Hubert Parry:  Blest Pair Of Sirens
Mendelssohn:  Symphony No 5 In D, Op107 (Reformation)
Puccini:  Messa Di Gloria

Hubert Parry is HRH Prince Charles’ favourite composer and best known for Jerusalem
and the stirring opening of Blest Pair of Sirens evokes the essence of Parry’s “Englishness”.
This is a programme of contrasts with Mendelssohn’s final major symphony programmed to
mark the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation started by Martin Luther in 1517.
Puccini’s Messa di Gloria is a rare venture by the Italian into church music and
there are many hints of the operatic featured in the work.
