Suffolk Festival Chorus’ first concert will feature;
Puccini’s Messa di Gloria (listen out for some glorious operatic tunes)
Faure’s delicious Cantique de Jean Racine
Vaughan Williams  Five Mystical Songs (prepare to be blasted away by the final movement!)

The Chorus will be accompanied by the Suffolk Festival Orchestra and two superb soloists,
Alexander Baker – Baritone and David Butt Philip – Tenor

Martyn Bagnall, the Music Director, is no stranger to Suffolk, having lived here since 1981. A relative of the composer Sir William Walton, Martyn trained at Trinity College of Music, London and has sung in all of the major London concert venues. He has also sung for the BBC in a number of recordings as well as in the London Handel Festival.
On moving to Suffolk, he founded the Ipswich Chamber Choir and put on many concerts around Suffolk, including Snape Maltings. He moved to Dubai in 2007, where he conducted the Dubai Divas, the Dubai Singers and the Dubai Sinfonia. He put on major concerts including the UAE premiere of Verdi’s Requiem, using singers and musicians from around the Gulf and soloists from Covent Garden. He shared a platform with Elton John when acting as Chorus Master for the world renowned media composer Steve Sidwell at the opening of Dubai’s new Maydan racetrack. He was also Chorus Master for the choir supporting the world famous tenor Andrea Bocelli in Abu Dhabi before a capacity audience of 10,000. Martyn has now returned to Suffolk and has founded and is currently Musical Director of Jubilate, a group of 12 expert singers who sing evensong in Suffolk’s magnificent collection of churches. He has also recently been appointed Musical Director of The Abbot Consort of Voices, based in Bury St Edmunds.

Alexander Baker, originally from Suffolk, graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and has sung at the Aldeburgh Festival, English National Opera, Glyndebourne on Tour amongst others. He has also performed in the Netherlands, Japan, Israel and Sweden and also with many major orchestras, including London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the City of London Sinfonia, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

David Butt Philip studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio. He has sung for English National Opera and Glyndebourne on Tour and has sung at the Royal Opera House and the Barbican. He has sung with many major orchestras, including The Halle, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

The Suffolk Festival Singers was formed in 2017 to provide a forum for
experienced choral singers to perform large scale choral works accompanied
by a symphony orchestra and first class soloists in prestigious venues.
