ConductorBENEDICT COLLINS RICE

Tomas Luis de Victoria – OFFICIUM DEFUNCTORUM
James MacMillan – SEVEN LAST WORDS FROM THE CROSS

Please join us to hear two rarely performed gems spanning 400 years of choral writing.

Victoria’s “Officium Defunctorum” of 1605 ranks not only as an outstanding example of Renaissance polyphony but as one of the masterpieces of musical history, transcending time and place.

Sir James MacMillan has a deep respect for ancient and classical traditions. He uses a broad range
of styles and often mixes Scottish folk melodies and ornamentation into his music. His setting of
The Seven Last Words on the Cross spoken by Jesus is an inspiring and deeply moving work.

We hope you can join us for an evening of very special music.

Saturday 29th February at 7pm – St Mary-le-Tower Church, Tower St. Ipswich IP1 3BE

Tickets £15 (students free) from:
Musicworld, Queen St, Ipswich 01473 253666
Woodbridge Violins, Market Hill, Woodbridge 01394 383150

Whilst at Cambridge University Benedict Collins Rice founded The Façade Ensemble, a group of young professional musicians whose performances are known for their ‘liberal seasoning of vivacity and wit’. He has been an inspirational Music Director of Ipswich Chamber Choir since September 2018, guiding us unerringly through Bach’s Mass in B Minor last Spring.
