CHARLES II AND IPSWICH: THE MYSTERY OF THE ANCIENT HOUSE
John Sutton

Did Charles II hide in Ipswich’s Ancient House during his epic flight after the battle of Worcester in 1651? While compelling evidence exists to refute this idea, a more distant association between the
two can be established. For the woman who played the most vital role in Charles II’s preservation – the royalist heroine Jane Lane – almost certainly took refuge in the Ancient House when she herself was on the run shortly after the Merry Monarch’s Great Escape. This is a tale of derring-do, intrigue and suspense.

ADMISSION IS FREE with a retiring collection to defray expenses. Donations of at least £2.00 per head are valued to maintain the series. Tea and coffee are served from 12.30pm.
