J. S. BACH – St JOHN PASSION
Of Johann Sebastian Bach’s surviving two great Passion oratorios, his setting of St John’s
tale of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus is the more direct and dramatic. The soloists
take the part of Jesus, Pilate, Peter et al. and the chorus provides colourful interjections by
the people, as well as the reflective chorales, the Lutheran hymns familiar to Bach’s
original audience on Good Friday, 1724, which he harmonised so expressively here.

Hadleigh Choral Society will be joined by six fine soloists, including old friends, and
Colchester Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Christopher Phelps.
Please join us for a memorable evening.

TICKETS: £14 (under-25: free) available from The Idler, 37 High Street, Hadleigh,
from choir members, from the website, & on the door.
